Nikita Bier, X’s head of product, is stepping down from the role after a year at the job.

“Ladies and gentlemen, it’s time to pass the torch and demote myself to my natural state: a poster,” Bier wrote in an X post on Wednesday. “I’ll be stepping back from leading product for X and will continue as an advisor.”

Bier added that while working at X has been “the privilege of a lifetime,” running the app has been a 24/7 undertaking.

“It’s now time for me to take a breather,” he wrote.

He also thanked his boss, Elon Musk, and said the app would be in good hands with executives like Benji Taylor, X’s head of design, product team lead Mridul Singhai, and iOS lead Jonah Katz.

Bier and representatives for X did not respond to a request for comment from Business Insider.

Bier celebrated his first anniversary on the job in July.

When he was hired in 2025, Bier said he had been trying to secure the position for years. In April 2022, he sent a public appeal to Musk to hire him to “run Twitter as VP of Product.”

“I’ve officially posted my way to the top,” Bier wrote on X when he got the job last year.

“While I already spend every waking hour on this app, I’ll now be spending that time helping others unlock that same value,” he added.

During his time as X’s product chief, Bier continued to post on the platform, sometimes sharing advice for users on how to use it better.

In September, he posted tips for earning money on X, which involved people picking a niche area and posting aggressively and deeply about it.

“It can be anything: plumbing, menswear, Indian food, furniture, social apps, whatever,” he said.

“Post one unexpected insight you picked from your experience in that area. Keep it under 5 sentences. Do this every day for 6 months,” he added.

This February, Bier appeared on the “Out of Office” podcast, where he described what it’s like to work for Musk. It involved a “very flat organization,” with weekly reviews and many people reporting directly to Musk.

“Everyone has an incredible amount of agency,” Bier said on the podcast. “We come up with an idea, we build it in a week, and it’s out.”
