OpenAI has allowed CEO Sam Altman to rejoin the non-profit’s board of directors, according to a report by The Information.

The decision comes nearly five months after Altman was removed from the board and temporarily fired as CEO. He returned to the CEO position two weeks later, but not to his position on the board.

OpenAI also confirmed today that the law firm WilmerHale had completed its review into the events that led to Altman’s removal from the company.

“WilmerHale found that the prior Board acted within its broad discretion to terminate Mr. Altman, but also found that his conduct did not mandate removal,” OpenAI said.

Open AI appointed three new members to the board on Friday as well, including Sue Desmond-Hellmann, a former CEO of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation; Nicole Seligman, a former president of Sony Entertainment; and Fidji Simo, CEO of Instacart.

OpenAI, creator of ChatGPT, has received billions in funding from Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT).
