Chip manufacturer Nvidia (NASDAQ:NVDA) wants to set up a production base in Vietnam, its CEO Jensen Huang said during a visit to the country, and plans to deepen its partnerships with local tech firms and support AI advancement through training talent.

Huang met Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh in Hanoi on Sunday, a meeting that the leader said would help in “concretizing the agreements reached during President Joe Biden’s visit to Vietnam last September.”

Huang noted that Nvidia (NVDA) has invested around $250M in Vietnam, and will continue to support the country in developing a semiconductor and AI ecosystem.

Nguyen Chi Dzung, Vietnam’s investment minister, said the nation has been preparing incentives to attract semiconductor and AI projects. Dzung also requested that Nvidia (NVDA) consider establishing a research and development center in Vietnam.

The Biden administration in September deepened ties with Vietnam across sectors including technology, semiconductors and tourism. Nvidia (NVDA) had partnered with Vietnamese companies FPT, Viettel, and VinGroup to bring AI to the cloud, automotive, and healthcare industries.
