The launch of Dogecoin Labs, Shiba Inu’s expansion across blockchain networks, and Robinhood Chain’s memecoin trading activity highlight a question: are memecoins becoming one of crypto’s most effective on-chain adoption engines?
Memecoins are often dismissed as speculative assets with little purpose beyond price movements. But their role in crypto could be more important than their critics acknowledge: they can attract users to blockchain networks and introduce them to crypto beyond trading.
Dogecoin Pushes Beyond Its Meme Origins
Dogecoin Labs brings together MyDoge, the DogeOS application platform, and Such App, a merchant payments product, under a coordinated initiative associated with the Dogecoin Foundation.
The products target wallets, applications, and payments, showing an effort to make Dogecoin useful beyond buying and selling DOGE.
The challenge is converting community recognition into sustained adoption. Still, the initiative illustrates how a project that began as a joke can pursue a broader role in the crypto economy.
Shiba Inu offers another example of a memecoin project seeking opportunities beyond its original community. Its expansion through additional blockchain infrastructure, including Solana via Wormhole’s Sunrise gateway, creates more opportunities for SHIB to reach new users and applications.
My own journey into crypto reflects this shift. Although I entered the market through Bitcoin, I initially approached crypto much like the stock market, focusing on prices and investment returns. It was Shiba Inu that opened my eyes to on-chain crypto, showing me that the industry offered far more than simply buying an asset and waiting for its value to rise.
This matters because memecoins can motivate users to connect wallets, explore decentralized exchanges, and discover blockchain applications they might never have encountered otherwise. The meme attracts attention; the underlying technology can open the door to a much broader ecosystem.
Robinhood Chain And The Memecoin’s Influence

Robinhood Chain offers a revealing example of speculative demand shaping blockchain activity. The network was designed to support tokenized assets, including stocks and real-world assets. Yet memecoin trading has also played a significant role in its early activity, illustrating how speculative markets can attract traders and liquidity to infrastructure built for broader financial applications.
However, that activity has proved volatile. Fortune reported on October 6 that trading volume in memecoin–stock-token pairs had fallen 96% from its early-September peak. The decline highlights the challenge facing blockchain developers: attracting traders is one thing, but retaining them after speculative excitement fades is another.
Even so, memecoins can serve as an entry point. Users who arrive to trade tokens may eventually explore decentralized finance, self-custody, payments, and other blockchain applications. Whether that transition happens at scale requires more evidence, but the potential deserves serious attention.

Can Dogecoin Turn Speculation Into Adoption?

Dogecoin, Shiba Inu and Robinhood Chain illustrate different sides of the same trend. Memecoins can create communities, attract attention and encourage people to interact with blockchain infrastructure.
The key question is whether projects can turn that initial interest into lasting participation. For Dogecoin, that means growing activity across wallets, applications and payments. For SHIB, broader network access must translate into sustained engagement. For Robinhood Chain, the challenge is converting speculative trading into durable demand for tokenized assets and other applications.
Memecoins may not be the final destination for every crypto user, but they could be the doorway through which more people discover what crypto can actually do.
