Elon Musk Is Spending Big Money on Politics Again

Just months ago, Elon Musk seemed to swear off major political spending. That seems to be over now.

The tech titan has poured $10 million into a super PAC backing GOP Senate candidate Nate Morris in Kentucky, according to Axios and The New York Times.

It would be Musk’s largest publicly known single contribution to a political candidate since the 2024 election, when he spent nearly $300 million and emerged as the GOP’s largest donor.

Morris, an entrepreneur and tech executive running on an “America First” platform, is running against two other candidates to succeed the retiring Sen. Mitch McConnell. He’s been backed by a slew of MAGA-aligned politicians and figures, though President Donald Trump has yet to make an endorsement in the race.

On an episode of Donald Trump Jr’s “Triggered” podcast on Monday, Morris said that the super PAC contribution came after he had a “terrific meeting” with Musk last week.

“He got excited about the race, and I think he was excited that I was a business guy and entrepreneur, and decided to make a big contribution to the super PAC that’s going to be helping our campaign,” Morris said. “We’re so delighted to have Elon’s support, and for him to go all-in on us.”

Musk has not yet publicly commented on the reported contribution, and spokespeople for Musk and his companies did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The world’s richest man has also reported to have made major contributions to super PACs tied to House and Senate GOP leadership. It comes as he’s appeared to largely mend his relationship with Trump.

“America is toast if the radical left wins,” Musk wrote on X earlier this month in response to reports of those contributions. “They will open the floodgates to illegal immigration and fraud. Won’t be America anymore.”

The details of Musk’s contributions will be publicly disclosed to the Federal Election Commission at the end of January.

More broadly, Musk appears to be re-engaging with American politics, posting about hot-button topics including immigration and his support for legislation to require proof of citizenship for voting.

Musk spending big on an election would mark something of a reversal from the middle of last year.

Shortly before his feud with Trump erupted into public view, Musk declared that he was scaling back his political contributions.

“If I see a reason to do political spending in the future, I will do it,” Musk said at the Qatar Economic Forum in May. “I do not currently see a reason.”

Those comments came a month after he spent millions to support a GOP candidate in a Supreme Court election in Wisconsin, only for that candidate to lose handily.
