CSX Corporation (NASDAQ:CSX) issued a statement about a derailment of a train north of Livingston, Kentucky.
The company said preliminary information indicated that at least 16 cars were involved, including two molten sulphur cars that have been breached and have lost some of their contents which is on fire. Two other cars were carrying magnesium hydroxide, but CSX (CSX) said they likely were not breached in the derailment. The other cars had non-hazardous materials.
Specialized equipment was deployed to conduct air monitoring in the area, and CSX (CSX) was in close contact with the Rockcastle county emergency teams. Local officials allowed residents to return to their houses after air monitoring data indicated that it was safe.
Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear had declared a state of emergency for the region after the derailment.
Shares of CSX (CSX) edged 0.15% higher in premarket action on Friday.
