Boeing’s (NYSE:BA) internal data were published online by Lockbit, the hacking gang that had threatened the aerospace and defense giant with a ransom notice, according to several news reports.
Boeing (BA) in a statement said it was aware of the data release and is confident that the data breach “poses no threat to aircraft or flight safety,” Reuters reported.
Lockbit last month said they had taken sensitive information from Boeing (BA) and would begin posting it unless the company paid a ransom by November 2. The cyber gang also put a countdown clock on its website.
The data breach affected Boeing’s (BA) parts and distribution business. Its website for selling spare aircraft parts, software and services last week went offline. The official Boeing (BA) supplies web page shows an image of a hard-hat and the company’s logo, along with a notice that a cyber incident disrupted its systems.
Lockbit is suspected of hacking the systems of the Industrial & Commercial Bank of China, the world’s biggest bank by total assets. The breach prevented some Treasury market trades from clearing.
“We are aware that, in connection with this incident, a criminal ransomware actor has released information it alleges to have taken from our systems,” Boeing (BA) said in a statement. “We continue to investigate the incident and will remain in contact with law enforcement, regulatory authorities, and potentially impacted parties, as appropriate.”
