Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) delayed its planned release of its Vision Pro mixed-reality headset from January to March, Bloomberg reported.

The tech giant unveiled the $3,499 Vision Pro in June and said it would be available early next year.

The complex design and difficulties in manufacturing are behind the forecast cut, while plans for a more affordable version of the headset have had to be pushed back, the news outlet added, citing people with knowledge of the production process.

In July, it was reported Apple (AAPL) had cut its production forecast for Vision Pro as manufacturers were struggling to get a grasp of the novel design of the mixed-reality headset.

TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said last month that Meta Platforms (META) has likely cut its shipment forecast for the Quest 3 mixed reality headset by up to 10% due to lower-than-expected demand amid news of Apple’s (AAPL) new device.

The Vision Pro is built from glass, aluminum and carbon fiber and is meant to blend uses between virtual reality and augmented reality with an array of sensors and cameras working through a single piece of up-front optical glass acting as a large lens.

A specialized chip, the R1, helps the device’s M2 chip process input from 12 cameras, five sensors, and six microphones. As for its heavy power needs, Apple says the device gets two hours of use with an externally connected battery (so that the battery weight isn’t on the user’s head).

Disney (DIS) CEO Bob Iger showed up to the June event saying that Disney+ would be available on Vision Ori on day one.

Apple (AAPL) has said the App Store for the Vision Pro headset will include all compatible iPhone and iPad apps by default. Plus, over 100 Apple Arcade titles will be available to play on VisionOS at launch, TechCrunch reported.
