    U.K. stocks higher at close of trade; Investing.com United Kingdom 100 up 0.56% By Investing.com

    Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the , and sectors led shares higher.

    At the close in London, the rose 0.56% to hit a new 1-month high.

    The best performers of the session on the were Marks and Spencer Group PLC (LON:), which rose 3.55% or 13.70 points to trade at 400.20 at the close. Meanwhile, EasyJet PLC (LON:) added 3.29% or 18.00 points to end at 564.80 and Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:) was up 3.21% or 18.40 points to 591.40 in late trade.

    The worst performers of the session were BT Group PLC (LON:), which fell 2.61% or 4.20 points to trade at 156.70 at the close. British American Tobacco PLC (LON:) declined 1.80% or 54.00 points to end at 2,946.00 and Schroders PLC (LON:) was down 1.78% or 5.60 points to 309.00.

    Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1038 to 740 and 645 ended unchanged.

    Shares in Marks and Spencer Group PLC (LON:) rose to 5-year highs; up 3.55% or 13.70 to 400.20. Shares in Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:) rose to 5-year highs; gaining 3.21% or 18.40 to 591.40.

    Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.42% or 11.24 to $2,669.74 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 3.04% or 2.07 to hit $70.17 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 2.74% or 1.97 to trade at $73.80 a barrel.

    GBP/USD was unchanged 0.13% to 1.27, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.06% to 0.83.

    The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.19% at 106.22.
