UnitedHealth (NYSE:UNH) said that the company is ready to clear a backlog of more than $14B in medical claims as its software applications affected by the recent cyberattack on its Change Healthcare unit resume operations.
The Minnetonka, Minnesota-based healthcare giant said that its medical claims preparation software, Assurance, went back online early this week, and its largest clearinghouse, Relay Exchange, will resume operations on the weekend of Mar. 23.
“Once a critical mass of payer connectivity has been established, we will turn on claims processing for Assurance customers,” UNH said in a Friday update.
“As of March 22, claims with more than $14 billion in charges have been staged for processing through the Assurance software,” the company added.
“Following activation of Assurance software customers, we will turn our attention to the reactivation of all other Relay Exchange claims submitters.”
On Wednesday, UnitedHealth (UNH) said that Assurance and Relay Exchange, Change Healthcare’s cloud-based services for medical claim processing, were “completely rebuilt” after the cyber security incident blamed on hacker group “Blackcat.”
Also on Friday, UNH updated that it has advanced more than $2.5B in funding for care providers affected by the crisis, a sizable increase from the $2B advanced payments the company announced early this week.
