Warner Bros. Discovery (NASDAQ:WBD) is bringing its Max streaming service to Europe starting May 21, in time for the Paris Olympics and a new season of one of the company’s high-profile TV series.
Max will first arrive in the Nordic countries, Iberia, and Central and Eastern Europe on that date, the company said, with launches following “closely after” in Poland, the Netherlands, France and Belgium.
In the case of France and Belgium, they mark the first new countries where WBD has launched a streaming service in more than two years.
The news comes after the revamped Max was unveiled in the U.S. in May 2023, and spread to Latin America and the Caribbean earlier this year. After the new launches, Max will be available in 25 countries in Europe and 65 countries and territories worldwide.
As for timing, the new season of HBO original House of the Dragon, part of the Game of Thrones franchise, will premiere in Europe June 17.
And as in other territories, customers will be able to choose among a Standard or Premium plan, a “Basic with Ads” plan, and a Sports Add-On plan that will offer coverage of sports events including Grand Slam tennis, cycling’s Grand Tours, 24 Hours of Le Mans and the live linear networks Eurosport 1 and Eurosport 2.
The Paris Olympics, set to begin July 26, will be “included in all subscription plans, ensuring all customers will gain complete access to the biggest sporting event in the world,” WBD said.
