Joe Rogan will keep his brand of contentious content at Spotify (NYSE:SPOT) after the Swedish streaming giant announced he has signed a new multi-year partnership.
Rogan, whose previous deal with Spotify was worth a reported $200M, will continue to produce his podcast The Joe Rogan Experience, which first debuted in 2009 and has been exclusive to Spotify since 2020.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed but The Wall Street Journal reported it could be worth as much $250M over the life of the deal.
Rogan’s previous deal was set to expire sometime this year and some reports suggested he could leave Spotify for other platforms, including social media network X, formerly known as Twitter.
The 56-year-old Rogan has stirred up controversy during his time at Spotify, which is attempting to break-even with its podcast business.
A 2020 episode featuring mRNA virologist Dr. Robert Malone resulted in Spotify adding a disclaimer to any podcast episode that addressed COVID-19 after several musicians pulled their music in response.
Rogan has waded into other controversial topics, including conspiracy theories, current events, politics and more with a wide variety of guests.
Spotify shares rose nearly 2% in mid-day trading on Friday.
