Intel (NASDAQ:INTC) is launching a new version of its AI chip, potentially aimed at challenging Nvidia’s (NVDA) dominance in the field.
At the Intel Vision 2024 conference, the company unveiled Gaudi 3 accelerator for enterprise generative AI. The company said that Gaudi 3 will power AI systems with up to tens of thousands of accelerators connected through the common standard of Ethernet.
The Gaudi 3 AI accelerator delivers 50% on average better inference and 40% on average better power efficiency than Nvidia’s H100, at a fraction of the cost, according to Intel.
The company noted that Gaudi 3 will be available to original equipment manufacturers, or OEMs, including Dell Technologies (DELL), HPE, Lenovo (OTCPK:LNVGY) (OTCPK:LNVGF) and Super Micro Computer (SMCI), in the second quarter of 2024.
The company also unveiled a suite of new open scalable systems, products and strategic collaborations to accelerate GenAI adoption.
Intel announced partnerships with Google Cloud, a unit of Alphabet (GOOG) (GOOGL), Thales, and Cohesity to use Intel’s confidential computing capabilities in their cloud instances.
Intel also intends to create an open platform for enterprise AI with SAP (SAP), RedHat, VMware and others to advance deployment of secure GenAI systems, enabled by retrieval-augmented generation.
