Blur announced that its website will close on November 12, 2026, while its Ethereum NFT marketplace contracts remain operational. The protocol survives on-chain, but the Blur NFT marketplace is losing its main interface after monthly NFT trading volume dropped more than 99.5% from its 2023 peak.
The same date applies to Blend, Blur NFT lending service: it will stop matching new loans, and borrowers must repay outstanding loans by the deadline, or allow them to default. Blur plans to provide a separate tool afterward for withdrawing assets from Blend, but the announcement did not specify when that tool will be available.
The decision follows Blast’s October 2 shutdown announcement. Blast, an Ethereum scaling network created by Tieshun Roquerre, also known as Pacman, was developed by the team behind Blur.
But unlike Blast, Blur has not publicly attributed its closure to operating losses; the Blast network shutdown offers a separate example of an Ethereum ecosystem project winding down while users still face asset-access deadlines.

Live Contracts Face a Test of Practical Utility
Blur’s contraction is stark against its peak. The marketplace captured more than 70% of Ethereum NFT trading volume in March 2023, when monthly activity reached about $1.43 billion; by March 2026, volume had fallen below $7 million.
The marketplace launched in 2022 with a focus on professional traders, using faster transactions, low fees, and token rewards to compete with OpenSea. Its incentive programs later drew criticism for encouraging speculative trading and putting pressure on creator royalties.
There is also a gap between trading activity and protocol income. The primary report cites Token Terminal data showing no transaction-fee revenue over the past three years, despite billions of dollars in trades, because Blur charged no marketplace fees.
BLUR holders will retain control of the protocol’s fee switch, which could allow them to vote on whether trading fees begin. Continued control is not the same as an approved fee change.
The practical question is whether outside builders will create interfaces that make the contracts usable and help traders find liquidity. On-chain availability preserves a route to the protocol; it does not guarantee the discovery tools, bidding flow, or user activity that a first-party frontend can support.

BLUR Price Sharp Selloff After The NFT Marketplace Announcement
BLUR is trading around $0.015 after a decline of more than 20% following the announcement. CoinGecko snapshot also showed $42.6 million in 24-hour trading volume and a market cap of about $38.75 million.
| Measure | Reported figure | Context |
| BLUR price | About $0.015 | More than 20% lower after the announcement, per the primary report |
| Blur Monthly NFT trading volume | About $1.43 billion to below $7 million | March 2023 peak to March 2026 |
| Blend deadline | November 12, 2026 | New loan matching stops; borrowers face repayment or default |
Before November 12, Blend borrowers must decide whether to repay or accept default, with a withdrawal tool planned for afterward. For the marketplace, the next test is whether another interface can convert live Ethereum contracts into sustained activity; if not, the volume decline leaves little evidence that contract survival alone will restore BLUR’s practical utility.
